Awesome!
I am using your slickquiz plugin for wordpress for the first time. I am impressed so far but have a question… Do you have anywhere an explanation of what the various text entry boxes on the “edit quiz” page mean? for instance, I do not understand the intent of the “main copy”, “result copy”, or the 5 “knowledge level” text input boxes. Very impressive plugin! Nice work. I am looking forward to building a collection of quizzes.
Kind Regards,
Joe
your godzilla pop-up thingy scared the bejeezus outta me! Don’t do that!
@Joe – Haha, the velociraptor is the best part of my site :)
As for SlickQuiz, if you look at this demo page: http://quickenloans.github.com/SlickQuiz/
“Main Copy” is the paragraph of text you see below the Quiz Name.
“Result Copy” is the paragraph of text you see below the scores at the very end of the quiz.
The “Knowledge Levels” are the rankings you see right below the score at the end of the quiz. So someone who gets all the answer right could have the level of “Genius”, while someone who gets them all wrong could have the level of “Not So Smart.”
Hope that gives you some clarity. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Very cool website. I know “om mani padme hum.” It’s a very potent mantra.
I found this site from your video on YouTube of the 2 guys playing electric cello on the street in Las Vegas. Do you have any further info about them? I was just out there & saw them – now they play on Fremont Street. I thought I had memorized their URL, but the one I entered turned out to be a dead end.
Any clue, no matter how small, would be great. Thanks in advance either way.

PS: Sorry but I don’t do Facebook or Twitter.
@Steven in CHGO – Thanks for checking out my blog! Those celloists from Vegas were absolutely amazing, unfortunately I did not grab the URL either. I was hoping it would be visible in my video, they had it written on their money bucket, but I haven’t been able to make it out. I believe it was a Facebook URL.
If you track ’em down, let me know!
Julie:
Your slick quiz is a very nice product ! Many thanks.
I am trying to adopt it for building physics quizzes. slickQuiz config.js actually takes mathml code and displays the math both in the question and the answer. But I would like to insert png or svg images also. The config.js file is not cooperating…!!
Any suggestions ? Can I email you a file I created?
Cheers
Shivaram
PS: BTW – my cousin lives in Farmington Hills, MI and is a terrific yoga guru – do you need his info?
@B Shivaram – Thanks!. You should be able to include image tags within the quiz value strings.
You can certainly email your config file to [jewlofthelotus AT gmail DOT com]
And sure, I’ll take your cousin’s yoga info :)
Julie,
First of all, thanks for sharing such a nice plugin with world. I really like sharing knowledge concept to make world better and better.
I have few suggestions. Plugin should have below things:
1. Skip Question functionality.
2. Time limit (timer)
3. Negative marking facility.
I am trying to implement the same and will share with once done.
One thing I didn’t like in the implementation is you are dealing with DOM manipulations… Instead I guess we can have in memory object. Please correct if i am wrong.
Question: Can I use this newly creates saved functionality in my plain PHP application? I don’t have WP application and still want to use this new feature. Please guide.
Regards,
Vaishali
Hi I really like your SlickQuiz.
I have a pretty long course planned 50 lessons each 15-20 questions multiple choice test style (1 right answer out of 3).
Some people may want to access their place later where they have stopped.
Would it be possible for you to programe that into the plugin also?
user + password + place the quiz stopped for later access
Thank you for feedback.
Hi Julie,
I’ve recently come across your quiz plugin, which is a great little solution! My question is about knowledge levels.
I’m trying to make an English language test with 45 questions. If you get 15 right, you’re beginner, if you get 15-30 right, you’re intermediate and advanced for 30+. Is there a way to set these limits somehow and have 3 levels instead of 5?
Thank you very much for your answer in advance!
Hi :) I found your quiz script and intend to use it. I don’t understand if it is possible to store results somewhere so that an administrator can check the knowledge level of users anytime. Thanks a lot!
@Vaishali – Thanks for the suggestions, I’d love to see what you come up with! Regarding the new saved scores functionality in the WP plugin, it’s likely that you’d be able to port the WP logic over to your PHP app – it will almost certainly not work out of the box though.
@wikbi – That would be possible to do and I will note your request. I probably won’t put it too high up on my priorities right now though. It might end up being a pretty big thing to do.
I also want to note that the quiz is not exactly hack-proof. The answers are kept on the page, hidden in the code – so anyone who knows how to view the source code of a page could find them. Thus, SlickQuiz might not be the best option for graded coursework, etc.
@Zsolt – To get the scoring you’re talking about, you’d have to make a few slight modifications to the plugin itself – specifically in the
calculateLevel
method (https://github.com/QuickenLoans/SlickQuiz/blob/master/js/slickQuiz.js#L376). You’d want to adjust the ranges to your preferences – something like this would work: https://gist.github.com/jewlofthelotus/5591940@Silvia – Right now, the jQuery plugin has no option to save scores. The WordPress plugin does have that capability though.
Hi Julie, I didn’t know about the wordpress forum having the no offer to pay rule so the topic on your quiz got closed. I am still interested in paying for your service for some extra features on the plugin. Please let me know.
@Boss2000 – I didn’t actually know that was a rule either. But I wouldn’t mind discussing this more. Feel free to email me at jewlofthelotus [at] gmail [dot] com with your thoughts!
Wonderful, thank you!
Hi Julie! First: Wonderfull PLugin, rly! love it! I dont know how i can contact you, so I write on your blog ;)
I have a question: is it possible to display three questions on one site? or is it very difiicult to change this?
if is not possible, can i modify the result in: “correct answers / selected answers”
why? i design a graphic where you can see 3 questions with 3 answers on one site..in wordpress i set 1 questions with 9 answers…. its look good and nice, but the score at the end is wrong :( , can you help me?
@fson – Hey! Thanks for trying out the plugin! I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to accomplish – do you have a demo page I could look at?
Dear Julie,
Thank you very much for your SlickQuiz.
Is there any way to insert image in quiz in the SlickQuiz?
@javad khouban – Yes, you should be able to place any HTML element within the JSON object values. You’ll just need to look out for quotations and be sure to escape them. You could also alternatively use CSS to apply background images to the various elements.
I put HTML code and its four javascript files and three CSS file on my server (hosting24.com), but unfortunately nothing came up on screen but when I put the codes on XAMPP, there isn’t any problem. I contact with host help desk but they told me I should contact the developers. I am an agriculture student and don’t know about server configuration. Can I give you my username and password of my host so you can check my webpage? In my host is only the demo of your code that dosen’t work (http://quickenloans.github.io/SlickQuiz/). I really need your code because it is the most beautiful and free code in the web.
Dear Julie,
The problem was solved. Thank you again for your this code.
Hi Julie, thx for creating and sharing slickQuiz.
I have a very basic question.
I copied all your source code and files to run on my server hoping to emulate your demo.
The problem; it runs right though all the code with out stopping at “Get Started”, displaying all the questions in my web browser (chrome).
As you can probably tell I am new to coding in html5 and js, but basically in am trying to run slickQuiz as a mobile app for my students to do multiple choice questions.
Thank you agian :)
@Javad Khouban – Glad to hear you got it working!
@Phil – Thanks for checking out the plugin! Do you have a demo page with the broken quiz that I could take a look at? (P.S. SlickQuiz is not yet intended for academic use since the question answers are stored in plain text on the page / in user accessible files. So, in other words, it’s not cheat proof. Just wanted to make sure you’re aware since you mentioned students!)
Please look here:
http://rotor5.com/mobile/ppl/met/topic/9.4/quiz/9.4quiz.html
I would appreciate it.
This is going to be a free mobile aviation app course, so it doesn’t matter if they look at the answers.
@Phil – it looks like the quiz styles aren’t being applied correctly. Try grabbing the latest version of the plugin code from https://github.com/QuickenLoans/SlickQuiz
Woot, that fixed the problem.
Thank you for your help Julie :)

Hi! We’re the cello guys from the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas. Thanks for the kind comments! You can find us at: http://www.facebook.com/wearebridge
Hi Julie,
Thank you so much for sharing the slickQuiz! It’s really great!
One thing to make it perfect for me would be if I could also use it to make an “image-quiz” with questions like;
1. Who did this painting?
[jpg.picture shown here]
a: Van Gogh
b: Picasso
c: I did!
2. Which of these 2 pictures was made by Picasso
a: [picture1.jpg shown here]
b: [picture2.jpg shown here]
Can you please give me some advice for how to do this?
Thank you again!
@Andreas – Thanks for commenting, I’m glad SlickQuiz is working out for you. All of the question and answer fields accept standard HTML, so you should be able to place image tags directly into the values. You’ll just need to make sure to escape any quotes. Hope that gets you in the right direction!
